As you know we're investigating water. We decided to start with
the Sea...
The hedgehogs´ classes have slowly turned into
an underwater life museum, and in the English class we did the same.
First we started of by learning some new vocabulary,
related to sea animals. And we had a great time playing games and learning
those new words.
Then one day we decided we wanted to
know what colour water is.
First each child said what colour they
thought it was, and we wrote it down, making a list.
After
talking about their ideas about the colour of water, we got down to experimenting:
We
had five cups of water, and then in each one we put a drop of paint, a bit of
stirring and... MAGIC ...it changed colour!!
We
left one of the cups without any paint, and the water had no colour at all. So
we all learnt that water hasn’t got any colours, but we can make it have lots of
different colours if we want to.
But
then one hedgehog asked how come the sea is blue or green? We all tried to
answer that very clever question. In the end we found out that water sometimes
has the colour of the thing it’s reflecting. So we discovered another fun fact
about water: it sometimes acts like a mirror.
Another
day we got lucky: Natalie told us the story of the Rainbow Fish, we liked it so much that we decided to get our hands dirty and paint some beautiful fish, that would be as pretty as the Rainbow fish, to decorate our
class.
Little by little our class is looking more
and more like the sea.
